I was thinking about posting the NYT logo since last week, and my IST 444 presentation class talked about it today too.

We have seen this typeface ever since we were kids and the whole logo is just so familiar to all of us. What was said about this logo in my presentation class was that New York Times could probably spell this “Tha New Yark Times” and people would still read it like its supposed to be read just because we are so familiar with what this specific typeface should spell. I’ve never given much thought to how this looked but after the first two GRA217 classes, I noticed how distinctive the typeface was. Being the title of a newspaper, the letters are thick and gives off much weight and emphasis. The color black being solely used for the letters also adds an authoritative touch to it. However, the line movement in each letters are very fluid and elegant, and much detail is put into spaces that would usually be empty for most other typefaces. The next time you grab a NYT, check out how well made their logo is.
