One of the things that I most enjoyed about the reading was that it made me realize why typefaces developed. I never really thought about typefaces and fonts before as a style of art. I used to think of typefaces just as novelties, not as a necessity. This is why fonts that developed for certain purposes- like the New Alphabet by Wim Crouwel interest me so much. The New Alphabet was deigned without any curves or diagonals. This makes it optimal for use on digital screens. When I saw this typeface it struck me that typefaces are not only art but also important tools that we use daily. Another thing that I did not realize before doing the reading was that making whatever typeface you are using italic by just pushing the italic button in Microsoft Word actually corrupts the typeface. These are points that I am much more conscious of after doing the reading and will be paying more attention to in the future.
