Reading Response

I was unaware of this entire world of topography in which we live in before entering this course.  I love that the different uses and adjustments to a word, by experimenting with techniques such as kerning and tracking, can change an idea or meaning of that word completely.  I have never before looked at a flyer or an advertisement with such curiosity to what methods were used.  I must say I was very much sheltered to the confines of Microsoft Word, but now with the use of kerning and tracking the beauty in topography is evident.   I am also intrigued by the fact that even a certain alignment of the text itself can evoke a positive or negative emotion.  For example, a centered alignment is considered formal and classical, but if it is used on the wrong advertisement or piece the entire connotation of the message is thrown off.
